Attachment: Call for Entries: Basketball Court Mural

The City of Louisville, CO is seeking an artist or team of artists to design and install a mural on the Cottonwood Park Basketball Half Court. This half court is located next to a playground and is a popular location for families and children to play outdoors.

Vision: We are looking for designs that are creative, eye-catching, and vibrant. Thematically, we would like to develop a design that evokes the fun and energy that comes with playing sports and being active with your community outdoors. With this project, we are trying to incorporate art and creativity into Louisville’s daily life and public spaces.

When developing a design, artists should keep in mind that the boundary and court lines cannot be altered to accommodate the mural. These lines will be painted over the mural upon completion. Artists can incorporate court lines into their design.

No logos, religious depictions, or trademark designs shall be included in the mural. All artwork must be original to the artist or artist team submitting the design.

We want to make sure that the mural stays in good condition for many years, so artists will be required to use a specific type of paint that will ensure the longevity of the mural. More information will be provided about the provided paint and supplies upon selection.

Application Requirements

Proposals are open to emerging and established artists living and working along the Colorado Front Range, especially the Denver/Boulder metro region.

Proposals should include:

  • Resume/CV
  • At least 4 photos of previous murals or examples of art relevant to this project. Please include a title/brief description of each project
  • At least 1 description of a concept for this mural project. Can submit multiple concepts. A simple rendering/sketch of the concept in addition to a description is encouraged
  • Project timeline

Artist Scope of Work and Timeline: The mural must cover the entire surface of the basketball court – 42’ x 38’. Installation of the mural will be completed by May, 2025 at the latest. The budget for this commission is $3,000 which will be allocated to the selected artist/team. Special court paint and materials will be provided to the artist/team by the City.

Qualification Review:

  • Application: Did the artist submit a complete application?
  • Artistic excellence: Is the proposed design concept unique and appropriate to its location and purpose? Does the artist’s previous work demonstrate mastery of this artform?
  • Goal: Does the proposed design concept align with the vision of the project?
  • Capabilities: Does the artist have sufficient experience to carry out their proposal with excellence, within the timeframe? Does the artist have sufficient installation experience to ensure a durable final product?
