5 Can’t Miss Playgrounds in the Erie/Broomfield/Lafayette Area

By Christy Schaefer, Creator of Slides and Sunshine September 30, 2022

Colorado is full of amazing parks to visit and enjoy! In our years of creating Slides and Sunshine, my daughters and I have visited over 300 playgrounds across the state looking for the best to share. Here is a list of 5 of our favorites in your area – we can’t wait to hear which one you love most!

Silver Creek Park

612-566 Starline Ave, Lafayette, CO 80026

This playground is lovingly known as “The Chicken Park” because of its farm theme and painted chickens around the play area. Even more fun is that the chickens (and painted eggs) are part of a scavenger hunt! As it was the site of the Nuoci family poultry farm, the playground features themed elements such as a chicken coop toddler play area, wagon seesaw and large tractor. For the older children, there is a high slide, rope pyramid and zipline!

Star Meadows Park

Flatiron Meadows Blvd, Erie, CO 80516

Our family loves a good themed playground and Star Meadows is another to add to that list. True to its name, there are sparkly “stars” in the pavement that you can see at twilight and many moon themed elements as well. With a moon structure to climb, phases of the moon sculpture and even a sundial up on the hill, you will love that the kids can learn about space as they play!

Tip: If you go during non-school hours, there is a fantastic natural playground at Meadowlark K-8 so you get double the play areas!

Nature Kids Discovery Zone

475 Strathmore Ln, Lafayette, CO 80026

Natural playgrounds are popping up all over Colorado and Lafayette nailed it with the Nature Kids Discovery Zone! Located behind Alicia Sanchez International School, this nature play area has much to be explored. There are boulders and large tree branches to climb, a bunch of tree stumps that we called the “organ pipes” and two walls of a log cabin for imaginative play. There is also a large stage area and places to teach a small group.

Spano Park

17715 Huron St, Broomfield, CO 80023

This brand new park can be seen just north of the Highway 7 exit on I-25 in the new Prospect Park area of Broomfield. The play equipment is great for all ages with a separate toddler structure, various types of swings (parent/tot, disc swing and chair swing) and four person seesaw. The large structure has four tall open slides, bouncing bridge, climbing wall panels to the side and a “Burke Mart” storefront below.

Tip: Bring along your pups as there is a great new dog park there too!

Cottonwood Park

3351 Westlake Dr, Broomfield, CO 80020

If you’re looking for a lesser known park with a great playground, check out Cottonwood Park in Broomfield. It has a whimsical play structure with a two story high slide for the older kids and short slide for toddlers. It also has a cute playhouse feel on the ground level with doorway and mail slot. We can’t decide as a family what is best about Cottonwood Park…the shade, the peaceful location, or that it has a zipline!

Christy Schaefer is a Colorado local and travels the state with her three daughters looking for the best playgrounds and kid activities. She created Slides and Sunshine to provide opportunities for children to find joy outside and promote imagination in physical play. By sharing her favorite playgrounds, families are having fun playing together and children are stepping away from screens and becoming more active.
