Colorado Ballet presents Sensory Friendly Performance
Families are invited to enjoy a night of ballet in an adapted,
low-sensory theater environment

DENVER, CO (February 14, 2020) – Colorado Ballet will present its third Sensory Friendly Performance for people with sensory processing disorders, autism or other developmental disabilities at Colorado Ballet’s Black Box Theater on Saturday, February 22 from 5:00 - 6:00PM.

Children can attend the event for free and tickets for adults are only $5. Patrons are encouraged to secure their seats now.

“We have had a hard time taking in these types of cultural events, and we are so very grateful that [Colorado Ballet] is making an effort to include those in the disability and sensory community! I can’t thank you enough!” –Sensory Friendly Performance Attendee

Families are invited to enjoy a night of ballet in an adapted, low-sensory theater environment. Performance adaptations include:

  • Lower sound levels
  • Dimmed house lighting
  • A sensory break space in the lobby
  • Sensory toys available for use in the theater
  • Pre-visit social story
  • Relaxed house rules allowing patrons to speak, stand up and walk around

At the end of the performance there will be a Q&A with the dancers. Audience members will also have a chance to try some dance moves on stage with our dancers and take photos.

The audience will experience history in movement as Colorado Ballet’s Studio Company dancers perform excerpts from ballets based on folk tales and literary classics in a performance entitled From the Page to the Stage. The dancers will also perform excerpts from Colorado Ballet’s 2019/2020 season: Don Quixote, The Nutcracker and Peter Pan.

A pre-visit social story is available for attendees to review before the performance.
