The Y has been helping kids foster creativity, develop new interests and gain independence throughout Boulder County, Broomfield County and parts of Weld County for decades.
But this summer, the YMCA of Northern Colorado — formerly YMCA of Boulder Valley — is heading north and bringing summer day camps to Johnstown, Milliken and Berthoud. These new programs are a part of the Y’s northern expansion, which includes the opening of the Johnstown Community YMCA in 2020.
While the fun is heading north, there are still countless opportunities for kids in grades K-9th in Boulder, Louisville, Lafayette, Longmont and beyond.
The Y’s summer camps run the giggle-inspiring gamut: from the traditional YMCA Camp Noco to nature-based YMCA Camp Elks, from sports to cycling to STEAM camps. Y camps are strategically located all over the community, from Berthoud to Louisville, from Milliken to Bailey, CO, where YMCA Camp Santa Maria, the YMCA of Northern Colorado’s mountain overnight camp, sits in the heart of the Rockies. All of these locations ensure our families are never too far from a YMCA summer camp.
Oh, and the Y also keeps your middle schoolers off the couch during summer break. Our Teen Camp gives middle schoolers chances for exploration and bonding during fun field trips, sports and games, and the Y’s Leader In Training program provides young people with five weeks of service and leadership opportunities, including a service-learning trip to the Sioux YMCA in South Dakota.
The Y believes summer camp opportunities should be available to all children — no matter their family’s financial situation. In 2018, more than 500 children attended YMCA of Northern Colorado Summer Camps with the help of financial assistance. Not only did those 500 kids enjoy an incredibly fun experience, but they gained mentors and positive peer groups; they learned and explored and found enrichment and empowerment.
