Transforming Memories with Adobe Photoshop Elements

By Marie Folmar, Macaroni Broomfield Publisher March 26, 2015

My eldest daughter is graduating from college in June. She is has been studying to receive her Airframe & Powerplant license (Air Plane Mechanic to most people) for the past 18 month. I'm looking forward to inviting friends and family to join in celebrating Kaylee's accomplishment and I wanted to make a collage of pictures that highlighted her passion for aviation. I loved using Adobe Photoshop Elements 13 to take some ordinary pictures and transform them into awesome memories. Below is my finished project, and the details of how I used Adobe Photoshop Elements to enhance the images.

Photomerge Compose

One of the main images on my collage is Kaylee standing next to the wing of an aircraft bearing the logo and name of the college she is attending. The really cool thing about this image? It started as two different pictures! I wanted to showcase an image of Kaylee with the school information, but her friend only took one picture that included that information. The picture that was taken was very cluttered, so I used the Photomerge Compose feature in Adobe Photoshop Elements to take an image of Kaylee standing in the intake of an engine and combine it with the image of the wing. Photomerge Compose was SO easy to use. It walked me through the edit step-by-step.

B&W Color Pop

One effect that I love in pictures is the black and white color pop. This technique is where you turn most of an image black and white and there is one color that remains. I wanted to use this technique to highlight the logo of Kaylee's college. Adobe Photoshop Elements let's you apply this effect to your photo with ONE click! Amazing!

Out of Bounds

I also love to have fun with my photos. The Out of Bounds Guided Edit allows you to take a regular photo and transform it into a 3D image. This picture of Kaylee standing next to this Cessna 172 so very everyday. The step-by-step Out of Bounds tutorial helped me transform into a really cool picture.

I was very impressed with how easy Adobe Photoshop Elements made some very difficult editing techniques. I would have not been able to enhance my photos in the same way without this amazing software.
