Broomfield Business Spotlight
This week I am spotlighting a local business that joined the Broomfield community at the end of July and who is now a sponsor of Macaroni Kid Broomfield. Calico Books is the Daughter-Store of Booklovers Used Books located in Ft. Collins. Calico Books has the same owner as Booklovers, but it is managed by Becky Hancock, the owner’s daughter.
I first heard of Calico Books from my 16 year-old. She is an AVID reader (who reads four books at one time??? She does!) and she was super excited to see a used book store opening up within biking distance of our house. Kaylee has made numerous trips to visit Becky since their grand opening.
Calico Books’ specialty is customer service. Becky is there to help you find new authors’ to enjoy and old classics to experience again. One of Becky’s favorite parts of her job is, “being able to interest a child in reading who was adamant against even picking up a book.”
This Saturday, January 15th, from 11am to 2pm, Calico Books is featuring a book signing with The Vitamin Band author Olena Burda-Lassen. The Vitamin Band uses delicious fruits and vegetables to help teach children and parents how to play 7 musical notes on the piano and how to read sheet music. This is not your ordinary book signing! Children will have many opportunities to interact through book discovery, fun musical activities on the keyboard, matching, puzzles, and lots of FUN!
I hope you join me in welcoming Calico Books to our community and I hope to see many of you at The Vitamin Band book signing!
